6th Islamabad Literature Festival to take place on September 27

ILFIslamabad Literature Festival (ILF) is an especially important event and occupies a distinctive position in the cultural, educational, and literary life of Pakistan. It is a young city, and it therefore vibrates with the energies of youth. Its naturally beautiful location makes it an ideal place for literary, cultural, and creative inspiration to flourish.

The sixth Islamabad Literature Festival is scheduled to take place on 27, 28, and 29 September 2019. As before, it is being organized by Oxford University Press at the Hotel Margala in Islamabad.

The aims of ILF are to develop interaction between writers, intellectuals, and artists within Pakistan and across borders, cultures, and languages, and to nurture and promote books and the habit of reading. Given the presence of the diplomatic community here, it provides a unique opportunity to put Pakistan on the map as a country rich in culture, creativity, and exchange of ideas and opinions. ILF brings together and celebrates Pakistani and international authors writing in many languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Potohari, Seraiki, English, and other languages. It features debates/discussions; talks; mushairas (poetry recitals) in Urdu, English, a book fair; book launches, readings and signings; film screenings; music; dance; and much more.

While the roots of ILF are nourished by the rich traditions of our heritage, it will especially look forward to the future and explore new writings, new trends, and new technologies, and provide platforms to younger authors and scholars.

Bam-e-Dunya Music conference sets ambitious goal of protection and promotion of music


Gilgit, July 29 (PR) – Music experts and scholars from local, national and international including Afghanistan and Tajikistan, academia and civil society institution – agreed to work together to protect and promote in shared geographical region comprising the Karakoram, Pamir Mountains and the Wakhan – this area is also known as the roof of the world/ Bam-e-Dunya – due to its high altitude.

International centre for integrated Mountain Development ICIMOD, WWF – Pakistan, Karakorum International University, GB Folks, Ministry of National Food and research, Government of GB joined hands to organize this conference in order to protect and nurture the phenomenal potential of rich music culture of the diverse ethnicities of Gilgit Baltistan, Kohistan, Chitral, Swat and many places of Wakhan and Pamiri. Culutre.

The conference was first of its kind which was highly appreciated due to its format by the participants as it provided a huge platform to overview music with research and actual is first of its kind to research and literally approach. It was aimed to set a platform for the researchers, artists and other stakeholders to highlight the diversity and richness of culture, music and literature/linguistics of the HKP landscape.

Connecting the stakeholders including artists spread over the region is crucial to sustain, promote and celebrate the diversity, termed by DG ICIMOD. They Deputy Speaker GB Legislative Assembly Mr. Jaffar Ullah Khan highlighted the importance of music to engage the new generation in healthy and creativity which can help curb the religious fundamentalism. He emphasized the need to help the GB government by the relevant civil society, academia and development organizations to protect the endangered languages of the mountain region through documentation and including the local languages in curricula.

Researchers presented their research work on the endangered languages and musical instruments historically being used by the mountain communities and shared the commonalities of instruments, rhythms and songs. It is recommended in the conference to devise a mechanism for the researchers and artists to come together from time to time to share their learning, experiences, commonalities to protect as well as promote the cultural and musical diversity and create room for fusion with the modern musical instruments. Artists, researchers, culture and music can help reduce the prevailing mistrust among and between the neighboring countries in the region. Researchers from Afghanistan and Tajikistan also shared their research findings and highlighted elements threatening mountain indigenous music and musical instruments.

Participants concluded their strong recommendation: support for opening new music and culture academy or department within the universities. Patronage of artists/ musicians. Strengthening of exchange opportunities. Documentation and digitization. Increasing research to address growing challenges. To increase collaboration of Government, academia and civil society.





QAU announces MPhil/MS & PhD admissions for fall 2019

qaaIslamabad: Applications from Pakistani/Foreign Nationals are invited for admission to M.Phil/MS Programme & PhD in Biological Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social sciences of the University latest by 09-08-2019.

For MPhil/MS, the applicants must have to their credit: First Division in MA/MSc or in BA/BSc or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years Degrees;

Shall not have obtained third division in BA/BSc or MA or MSc ;

In case of 3rd division in FA/FSc, the candidate should have obtained 1st division in both BA/BSc and MA/MSc; or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years Degrees;

No Objection Certificate from the employer is required to be attached with Admission Form and routed through Proper Channel in case of in-service applicants; (* Candidates applying for MS (IST) are exempted from this requirement.)

The applicants must provide official certificate showing percentage of marks obtained in MSc/BS Hons/4-5 years programme.

The applicants are advised to deposit the same in the Habib Bank Ltd. OR Askari Bank Ltd. in favour of the Treasurer, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad (throughout the country with bank charges, non-refundable).

The Bank Challan should be attached with the downloaded Admission Data Summary Sheet along with other requisite documents; otherwise the incomplete and late applications shall not be entertained

One copy of the downloaded Admission Data Summary Sheet duly filled in and supported by the attested copies of educational testimonials i.e. Certificates and Degrees must be submitted directly to the Chairperson/Director of Department/School/Institute/Centre by hand/ courier etc. latest by 09-08-2019 positively. Subject Test:

The admission to MPhil/MS programme shall be made on the basis of cumulative merit to be determined from previous academic record, University written subject test and interview.

No separate call letters for test/interview will be issued.

Only the test pass applicants will appear before the interview as per schedule of the Department/ Institute/ School/ Centre (DISC) concerned.

The lists of the pass applicants shall be displayed on the notice boards of the relevant Department/ Institute/ School/ Centre (DISC)
